Although I'm currently reading English ("books. You read english... books" I always think of that An Education joke) at university in Liverpool, I studied Art until A Level and I still can't resist a gallery every once in a while.
The Tate Liverpool has had its Alice in Wonderland exhibition since November but a lethal combination of essays, exams (one left!), and going home for Christmas has meant I haven't been able to go... until yesterday. I know, a blogger~ liking Alice in Wonderland is hardly surprising, but knowing there would be some Pre-Raphaelite works there (Rossetti! Hunt! Millais!) gave me a more substantial need to visit and part with £5.40 (Worth. It. It's a massive exhibition too). I thought you might like to see the sketches I did while I was there (Millais, Penrose, and Rackham. Further proof I still can't draw hands. Click through to see it bigger, if you fancy), and a photo of me taken last term standing on the kitchen surface and "proving" I'm tall by touching the ceiling. Maybe it was something labelled "drink me".
And in regards to the Coachella stuff I wrote in my last post, I was going to go, but my friend pulled out due to an internship and I didn't fancy going all that way with people I don't know so well. Thank you for letting me know about your experiences though! To compensate, I've been spending too much time window shopping on the Mulberry website and dreaming of Paris next year.

Ahh, I want to go to that exhibition immeasurable amounts... Darn Liverpool being so far away :( Your sketches are rather lovely, you are far too harsh on yourself there is nothing wrong with the hands!
ReplyDeleteOh, and sorry to hear about Coachella :( I wish I could go with you, but it seems ridiculously expensive to fly to America :( Weep, just
ReplyDeleteAw, bummer to hear you're not going! But indeed, it's better to go with people you really know (and can endure while being on a trip for a longer time). I really like your sketches, and the picture of you is lovely. Totally in Alice-in-Wonderland style. :)
ReplyDeleteLooks like fun. Your sketches are lovely, and the hand is a bit cartoony - which is a good thing! Wish I lived in Liverpool. I miss England to be honest.

I really really want to go to that exhibition, but living in damn Devon means getting to Liverpool would basically be a nightmare... and oh my word, there's Pre-Raphaelite stuff there too? (I'm a bit of a massive Rossetti geek- I wrote my dissertation on him- I got to compare the poetry with the art- SO much fun)
ReplyDeleteI am sad.
Completely understandable, it's a bore getting here from London! Oh god, ME TOO. I love his stuff, such a sucker for the whole movement. That dissertation sounds so, so cool, not sad at all. I would willingly write on that. xxx
Deleteoh that looks so cool!

I wish this exhibition came to London too, looks really interesting, plus the pre Raphaelites.. I find hands really hard to draw too. What a shame about Coachella, I would probably do the same though, it's a long way to go with people you don't know so well. xx

I really really wanted to visit this exhibition! But a combination of no time and no money has prevented me from making the journey :( You're so lucky you got to see it!
ReplyDeleteso amazing! looks like heaven on earth for an Alice obsessed English student like myself!!
ReplyDeleteand it's a bit late, but my 2 cents about coachella - it's becoming more and more overrated as the years go on...it used to be amazing, 2007 was probably the highlight (for me at least) but the people/crowd is becoming a bit...dodgy? idk, it's just not the same, so don't worry too much about not being able to go!
wish you had more pics to share :D
ReplyDeleteAw, this was a really nice post. In idea I would like to put in writing like this additionally – taking time and actual effort to make a very good article… but what can I say… I procrastinate alot and by no means seem to get something done.###
