the moodiest face in the world

It may not feature on the titles of that esteemed television show Eastenders like the Thames, but Munich's river Isar definitely trumps it regarding prettiness. Wandering along its banks on a snowy Saturday afternoon before heading to Beirut Beirut for all kinds of lebanese goodness made for the perfect start to the weekend. It's odd how you tend to not do touristy things the moment you live somewhere, as if paying the deposit on your room equates to some kind of agreement to not indulge in a Lonely Planet travel guide because you're a Münchner (a phrase I had to look up, fyi). So this time Charlotte and I headed down to see the frankly crazy surfers do their thing, and Sunday was reserved for art galleries and coffee, and maybe a bit of fangirling in front of a Fuseli. This girl knows how to live.

At least taking outfit photos results in finding out more about the area I work in! As I'm sure every other blogger out there has mentioned at some point in the last three months, finding the time to take outfit photos when it's light outside and you have a full time job is, to say the least, pretty tricky. Limiting ourselves to our lunch hour, Carmen and I often end up taking photos in the car park, but this time we went a little further afield (it was a whole five minute walk, if that's not commitment, I don't know what is) and found this little wooded area. Give us two minutes to de-coat and swap hats, and then we were snapping away, much to the amusement of the local dogwalkers.

Anyway, must return to my pancakes and maybe change out of my pyjamas at some point as I'm headed to the alte Pinakothek with friends later. However on trend I'm sure this floral primark number is, I think I'd rather people looked at the exhibition rather than myself.

I would put very good money on this being my most worn outfit. As far as pay per wear goes, every item I'm wearing must be in the pennies region, and I know that the boots will soon be heading that way too. When people praise a celebrity for "recycling" clothing, I do wonder what that social media executive thinks is normal, as, come on guys, they washed it and wore it again like every normal person. Unless you're Chris Brown. I don't know what it is about this skirt which makes it so wearable, but I find that it's quite a flattering shape for my hourglass figure, although I may have to retire it soon as it's so bloody short. The leather jacket goes without saying, really. I bought it as a finishing university present, and despite it being the most expensive thing I've ever bought I don't regret it in the slightest as it's become a wardrobe staple that I grab every time when I'm rushing out to catch the u bahn to work. As for the top, you might have heard that I like this little sheffield band called the Death Ramps? I've seen them five times now, and purchased this Arctic Monkeys t-shirt (my second) at their homecoming gig a few years ago and it's lasted pretty well considering how many countries it's been to, festivals I've survived, and times it's been in the wash. Here's hoping the bobble hat I got at Earl's Court lasts as long!

When people talk about having a type, it's generally in relation to what you look for in a boy/girlfriend, but as I opened this dress whilst wearing this blouse I came to the conclusion that maybe I have a clothes type. I don't experiment with clothes as much as I used to, and tend to dress for my shape (unless I'm tired or hungover, then I turn to a smock dress, which although comfy is incredibly unflattering), and apparently I'm currently going through a monochrome phase, which centres around a good ol' collar. This particular example is meant to be worn loose, but for me it works better when belted, so I turned to my failsafe charity shop bargain to nip it in a little bit.

So next time someone asks, I'll tell them my type can be found in my wardrobe, and wait for the reaction.

Currently sat on a coach heading back to Munich from Berlin (it was pretty last minute decision, hence why this is the first time I've mentioned it!), looking back on these photos feels like a lifetime ago, even though this is just six days back. Taken on a chilly Wednesday afternoon, I thought it was about time I wore my matching snood and bobble hat that I received for Christmas - thanks mum! Munich isn't actually that cold at the moment, surprisingly, but it's always nice to feel cosy, and this snood doubles up as a portable head support/pillow, so it's a great all-rounder, and perfect for the lunchtime trip to the supermarket for the essential sweet restock. Essential.

When I arrived home for Christmas, the second thing I did, after put the kettle on of course, was have a look through the post I'd received in my absence. Mostly things like bank statements and "What's On at *insert gallery here*" memos, I also had a couple of red slips meaning I could head to pick up some early presents from the sorting office. The next morning we headed straight down there, I collected them, put them in my mum's car, and promptly headed off to London for a few days of solid drinking, eating, and watching Love Actually. After that, I headed back home for christmas eve drinks, and then christmas day food, and by the time boxing day rolled round and when I put this skirt on for the first time it, unsurprisingly, didn't fit. Cue a promise to never touch carbs again which lasted a whole couple of hours, before deciding to stop being so melodramatic and have the pasta. I find dieting difficult (can you tell? Sometimes I feel like I'm the only blogger who's not a size six, and this is something I'm acutely aware of) as I'm of the "want what you can't have" tribe, so denying myself a whole food group would never work. Instead, I'm making a conscious effort to cook myself more healthy meals, take salads to work for lunch every day so that I'm not tempted by the frankly amazing cheese and ham croissants, and force myself to like eggs. So far, so good, apart from the slight hiccup when Carmen and I ended up at das neue Kubitscheck, but when they have cakes like the one below, surely it's ok to treat yourself a little?

Munich's English Gardens are some of the most beautiful I've ever seen. Even in Winter, when the fountains are covered and, let's be honest, it's bloody freezing, they still look picturesque against the steely sky. Now that the christmas markets have vacated every free space (although I did find one hanging around at Isartor - did they not get the memo?), Munich's back to its much calmer self, and Carmen and I arranged to meet for coffee and discuss our christmas breaks. For the occasion I wore my favourite smock dress (which is now in the sale!), with my panama hat which nearly flew away when boarding at Stansted, and the cutest little sparrow ring from Jana Reinhardt, all in varying shades of blue, suitable for the wet weather.

There are two types of people: those who go shopping on boxing day, and those who don't. I fall into the former category, and boy was I glad to see this jacket in the Topshop sale! Jacket of dreams, and I could justify it as being a sensible purchase as it does miraculously keep me warm, unlike 95% of the rest of my wardrobe. So, of course, I left it in England on my return to Germany. The hat, however, did make its way across the sea in the form of a camera bag, its soft, fleecy lining serving a dual purpose of keeping me toasty and my tech in one piece, a good all-rounder. Superdry's not a store I normally head into (although their male shop assistants do catch my attention), but after heading to their press day last year I can wholeheartedly recommend them for keeping your extremities warm in times of need/January.
